1. Characteristics of the person in charge
If you want to lead others, you must first know yourself and be able to lead yourself. Self-knowledge, dealing with one’s own emotions, needs and passions is the way to become a good leader. It prevents transfer to employees and thus prevents confusion and loss of energy through – as Grün calls it – “emerging power struggles and jealousies”.
Beyond the described ability of a leader to lead himself/herself first, the qualities and character are crucial. Grün lists the following important character traits: Experience, human maturity, modesty, humility, not being excited, being just, making clear decisions, thriftiness, fear of God and being like a father.
Grün does not spare criticism of today’s managers and at the same time shows how important character is: “Some managers would do better to deal with themselves first and explore their own soul instead of immediately dealing with difficult fellow human beings and a better organization of the company.
