Description:

OEMs and transmission manufacturers in the automotive passenger car sector are constantly looking for an optimum between cost, emission, weight and comfort. From the bouquet of mechanical transmission types, stepped automatic transmissions, dual clutch, continuously variable transmissions (CVT, IVT and toroidal) and automated manual transmissions, the latter seems to be a very good mix of automatic mode and low production investment. These transmission types are used in various niches (sports cars, vans and small cars). Thomas Schmidt was responsible as multi-project manager for the development projects of electrical controls for this type of transmission. His tasks include the coordination of all projects, the use of resources, early detection of problems, risk management, coaching of project managers and much more. During this time, several products were developed and successfully introduced into series production after approval. In addition, several prototype vehicles were built and marketed worldwide.
